Case Study

Stoke CDC – Diagnostic Imaging Suites

  Location:  Stoke CDC

  Value of Works:  £1.4 million

Tender & Design Period:  15 Weeks

  Time on Site:  28 Weeks

Purpose of the Project

To deliver the specialist environments required for a new multi-modality diagnostic imaging facility, incorporating X-ray, CT and MRI accommodation within a larger construction project.

Works Undertaken on Site

ABC delivered X-ray protection, mechanical and electrical services and finishes to two X-ray rooms and two CT examination rooms, together with their associated control areas.

Two RF cabins were installed for the new MRI areas, alongside the required mechanical and electrical systems, finishes, control rooms and technical rooms.

ABC also developed the M&E design package in collaboration with the NHS, ensuring the specialist imaging installations integrated correctly with the main contractor’s wider building services design.

Challenges

ABC was appointed by the equipment supplier on a turnkey basis and was required to operate within a larger construction site under the health and safety procedures of the Principal Contractor.

Close coordination between ABC, the main contractor, equipment supplier, NHS and wider design team was therefore essential to ensure all specialist systems integrated correctly.

A dedicated ABC Site Manager, supported by an office-based Project Manager, oversaw the works. Regular programme meetings, client coordination meetings and fortnightly project reports ensured progress and emerging issues remained clearly managed throughout.

All areas were completed ready for delivery and installation of the imaging equipment.
